A 1992 study conducted by The Pathfinders (Dallas, TX) found that "In the immediate [Iosco County] area, employers consistently rated productivity and quality of the labor force to be excellent or good. Those subjective evaluations are confirmed by the low turnover and absentee rates. Substance abuse, screened for by many employers, was not cited as a problem." The wage rates, productivity and availability of labor make the [Iosco County] area highly competitive for laborintensive operations..." "Labor costs were very low for both skilled and unskilled employees. Commonly, unskilled workers could be hired for less than $5.00 per hour, with averages in the $6.50 range. Skilled employees were in the $10.00 $12.00 per hour range."
