The Iosco County Prosecutor is a statutory, mandatory position. The Prosecutor is elected every four years. The Prosecuting Attorney, Gary W. Rapp, is the Chief Law Enforcement Officer for the County of Iosco, and as such, he has a far range of duties. The Iosco County Prosecutor is also responsible for other matters which are not criminal in nature. All of the Prosecutor's duties are statutory and the following is a partial list of what the prosecutor's office covers:

  • To terminate parental rights when a case is deemed appropriate by the Prosecutor and bring the matter to hearing in Probate Court.

  • To pursue putative fathers of children born out of wedlock to establish their paternity and enter an order for filiation and child support which assists the State of Michigan and the Friend of the Court Office in their duties, these endeavors reduce the amount of assistance paid by the People of the State of Michigan for these children.

These are just a few of the statutory duties of the Prosecutor but they highlight the areas the Prosecutor must be knowledgeable in and matters which he must be able to proceed in trial on.
